"A Symphony for the Senses"
The Eighth Annual Michigan Lavender Festival, presented by Gabriel's Garden, will be held at the Wolcott Farm Learning Center, located at 65775 Wolcott Road in Ray Twp., Michigan between 30 and 31 Mile Roads. The 2-day event will take place on Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
This one-and-only lavender festival in Michigan, presented by Gabriel's Garden, has earned a reputation for delivering quality activities and first-rate vendors in a serene, lavender-filled atmosphere - and this year is no exception. As festival co-founder Jennifer Vasich describes it, "The lavender festival is a symphony for the senses."
Previously held in Romeo, The Michigan Lavender Festival is proud to be a Made-In-Michigan Event, featuring over 65 Michigan artists of one-of-a-kind, hand-made goods. Festival highlights include free classes and demonstrations, gourmet lunch, a natural health area, a farmers' market,
horse-drawn wagon rides, and "cooking with lavender" classes. Mini art workshops will be presented by the Starkweather Arts Center of Romeo, Michigan, and the proceeds will benefit the SAC. In addition to the festival, visitors are welcome to stroll about the barns and pastures to see the farm animals.
What's new to the event this year? More lavender. Although the lavender garden growing at Wolcott contains less than a hundred plants, the essence of lavender is sure to be drifting in the air throughout the farm. "This year, we hosted a contest and selected an artist of the year, seeking out the individual who most originally incorporated lavender into their existing line of work.", said Vasich, "Lavender could be used in any form, including lavender buds, sprigs, pure oil, painted lavender, etc. The entries were amazing." The result? Gail Marlinga, of Abby's Mosaic won the prestigious title of the 2010 Lavender Festival Artist of the Year for her beautiful mosaic entry. "It was difficult for the judges to determine a winner, there were just so many creative entries", adds Vasich, "Festival goers are in for a real treat this year, and we were able to give them exactly what they wanted more of - lavender!"
Admission to the 2010 Michigan Lavender Festival is $5 for adults and children under 12 enter free. Wagon rides fees are $5 per person, and $3 for seniors and kids 12 and under. Toddlers and infants are free.
